AgustaWestland Philadelphia History

Agusta Aerospace Corporation was established in 1980 in order to respond to the evolving market demand. Since then, the company’s facility has been expanded several times to cope with the increased market demand for the AgustaWestland commercial product range. Thus the Philadelphia facility has steadily expanded to become the AgustaWestland third main helicopter final assembly location and continues to be the main product support centre for customers throughout the Americas.
A 75,000 square foot facility in 10 acre lot in Philadelphia Northeast Airport where added in 1986 to the original site to offer maintenance and support services to the growing fleet of Agusta helicopters in the U.S. In 2004 a new assembly plant in additional 12.3 acres of land was opened to allow the set up of an AW119 Koala helicopter final assembly line to be transferred from Vergiate, Italy. The new facility added a state-of-the-art, 40,000 square foot workspace with assembly, completion and flight-line hangar areas.
A follow on expansion phase started in 2006 with the construction of 165,000 square foot facility for an AW139 assembly line, warehouses, offices, fuel farm and compass rose facility. This second AW139 assembly line has enabled AgustaWestland to meet the growing demand for the AW139 medium twin turbine helicopter around the world, with a particular focus on the expanding Americas' markets.

AgustaWestland Philadelphia is today responsible for the production and final assembly of the AW119 and AW139 models as well as the AW109 Power and Grand completion and customization for the Americas markets.
Philadelphia has also the capability to perform complete avionics package design, integration and installation. A recently expanded Training Center provides transition training for the AW109, AW119 and AW139 models to the customers’ maintenance and flight personnel. AgustaWestland Philadelphia, situated in a campus of 42 acres at the Philadelphia Northeast Airport, has more than tripled its work force from 150 employees in 2005 to over 500 in 2009.
