London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony

AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to have been selected as the sole supplier of helicopters for the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. AgustaWestland prepared three helicopters in special colour schemes and undertook the planning and flying of the sequences filmed in advance and during the Opening Ceremony, working in close cooperation with the UK’s CAA.

The AgustaWestland helicopters featured in the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony comprised an AW109 Power, that was seen overflying iconic London landmarks, an AW139 which transported two VIPs to the Stadium to officially declare the London 2012 Olympic Games open and an AW101 which released eight billion pieces of confetti.

The AW139 was also filmed flying over famous London landmarks and through Tower Bridge before arriving overhead the Olympic Stadium.















500th AW139 Delivered 12/07/2012

AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, handed over the 500th AW139 to Weststar Aviation Services of Malaysia during a ceremony held at the Farnborough International Airshow 2012. The 500th delivery comes just one year after AgustaWestland delivered the 400th helicopter. The entire AW139 fleet has now flown over 500,000 hours. AW139 final assembly is performed at AgustaWestland’s Vergiate and Philadelphia facilities in Italy and the United States respectively. The AW139 is also set to be assembled at the HeliVert plant located in Tomilino, near Moscow. HeliVert is a Joint Venture company established by Russian Helicopters (a subsidiary of JSC UIC Oboronprom, part of Russian Technologies State Corporation) and AgustaWestland. The plant will have the capacity to assemble up to 20 helicopters per year, with production set to start in the forthcoming months and progressively increase to a steady state regime by 2015. Since its certification in 2003, the AW139 has been constantly enhanced to achieve ever increasing levels of performance, safety, mission effectiveness and capability to meet the very latest challenging requirements of present and future customers. The only new generation helicopter in its weight class, the AW139 sets new standards of performance in its class with the largest cabin in its category, a maximum cruise speed of 165 knots (306 km/h) and a maximum range in excess of 570 nm (1060 km) with auxiliary fuel. Aircraft are now performing many roles including EMS/SAR, offshore transport, VIP/corporate transport, law enforcement and military transport. Almost 170 customers from more than 50 countries have ordered more than 640 AW139 helicopters so far.



AW101 VVIP Helicopter 27/07/2012

With the first VVIP configured AgustaWestland AW101 now delivered the company is now focused on delivering aircraft ordered by a number of export customers. The AW101 is the largest helicopter in its class and sets new standards for safety, comfort and capability. A 1.83 m high cabin provides stand up head room whilst an active vibration reduction system ensures very low levels of vibration across the speed range. Together these makes the AW101 the most comfortable and spacious helicopter for VVIP and Head of State transport applications. The AW101 cabin provides the customer with a limitless range of layout options with seating for 10 to 30 passengers and an extensive list of options for added comfort, security and entertainment. Three powerful engines provide significant safety margins during critical moments of flight compared to twin engine designs. Custom interiors for Heads of State and corporate clients benefit from the extensive knowledge and experience of AgustaWestland in this market. Every interior is individually designed and crafted to satisfy each customer’s unique requirements. The AW101 has the cabin space to ensure VVIPs are provided with the highest levels of comfort and all the facilities that can be expected aboard a large executive aircraft.
